Mariko O. Gordon, CFA

Business, Investment & Money Coach

Mariko O. Gordon, CFA founded Daruma Asset Management, an institutional money management firm in 1995. At its peak Daruma had $2.5 billion in assets. She was a pioneer at a time when there were few women, and fewer women of color on Wall Street.

Every stock counts in a portfolio of no more than 35 stocks. Mariko had to listen closely to the story each company’s financials told. She dug deep into each company’s ecosystem as well, speaking to customers, suppliers, regulators among others. Understanding a company’s culture was a key part of her practice. She believes that a company is a dynamic, complex system with a life of its own, ever changing in an ever changing world.

Mariko also knows the joys and challenges of running and growing a small firm. She has been featured in Barron’s, The Wall Street Journal, and invited to speak at the Wharton School and the prestigious Ira Sohn Conference.
